There is no difference in those ports except the design.
Display port is a small DVI port (the same signals).
HDMI is the same signals as DVI + sound.
So why have 2 mini ports for the same signal?

Well HDMI = Home theater, nothing else.
And does not have enough bandwith to dongle more screens through 1 cable.

DVI: Devil Video Interport! :D

I agree, but why not use hdmi?
It has been adapted by many pc laptop makers, and it is available on most screens, projectors and tvs (remember that hdmi and dvi is the same signal, just with and without sound). The use of another mini dvi port does only mean more adapters. In the end making dvi the new S-video with hundreds of different pin configurations

Well i agree.
But the displayport is the coming-gen output. VGA is 200 years old, DVI is too bulky, and HDMI is a Home Theather cable not belonging to to the PC world.

According to HP at a seminar, you can dongle several screens with displayport through 1 output on the PC, thus not needing several graphiccards/outputs for multiscreen setups.

But Im never going to get an Appleish computah!

Cheers

The previus 17" Macbook Pro used to have 3 usb ports.
It had an built-in dvi port, and a dvi to vga adapter was included.

Well none of these issues are new, 2 USB ports, no memory card reader and the funky mac only solutions for external screens are exactly the same on the old macbooks, and the old ibooks. The 4gb ram is quite strange as their desktops support alot more. As a revision this is a minor one, sure the new large touchpad without a button and the multigestures is nice, but it is mostly design. If you want to use it as a main computer maybe the 24 inch screen thingy with more usb ports can be a good choice?
